Blog Task: Film Promotion and Marketing

Choose a film that has recently been released, or is about to be released, and create a case study of the different ways in which the film company has promoted the feature.
Focus on the range of different medias film companies use as part of their promotion and marketing . Examples we explored in today's lesson:
  • Film posters/trailers/advertising
  • Websites/social media
  • Merchandise/soundtrack
  • Interviews/articles
  • Film festivals/reviews
Explore and provide examples of this for your chosen film, and provide some comments and explanation.

Remember, a film marketing campaign generally consists of three parts:

Advertising - paid for by the studio to sell the film to the target audience. E.g. the film poster

Publicity - not paid for directly by the studio, but used to create interest in the film, e.g. an interview given by one of the stars of the film

Tie-ins - authorised products designed to generate additional publicity and income for the studio and film

Note: You need to use a range of as many different media forms as possible when blogging, so you could try something new like Prezzi and upload it to your blog.
